Reliance Matrix Team Members Host Workshop for STEM Scholars

April 2026

Reliance Matrix team members Tom Blankemeyer and Jacob Cyr from the Philadelphia office Actuarial department, recently led an engaging workshop for The Franklin Institute STEM Scholars, covering topics such as risk management and the complexities of product pricing. Special thanks also to team member Jennifer Klein who worked with Tom and Jacob to develop the workshop.

To start off the workshop, Tom and Jacob introduced themselves and shared their respective roles. They offered insights into their day-to-day responsibilities, challenges, rewards of their professions, and their educational and career paths. They then led an interactive discussion about actuarial science and challenged students with fun creative ways to think about risk scenarios and how to choose appropriate ways to mitigate risk.

The students asked thoughtful questions and shared that they "all learned something about insurance and risk management - something that once felt intimidating but is now way more approachable."

The Reliance Matrix Foundation proudly supports STEM Scholars programming which includes hands-on workshops, academic enrichment, exposure to a variety of STEM and STEAM industries, professional development, entrepreneurial experiences, ACT test preparation and college essay tutoring, and college and career readiness.

Workshops are facilitated by professionals in area STEM industries and community partners, such as Drexel University's College of Engineering, Philly Solar Energy Association, University of Pennsylvania, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and many more, to introduce students to a variety of STEM career options.

STEM Scholars commit to four years of intensive STEM enrichment driven by their deep passion for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Programming occurs weekly after school and four full weeks during the summer.

The Foundation is grateful to Tom, Jacob, and Jennifer for sharing their experiences and expertise, and for volunteering their time. We extend a special thank you to the STEM Scholars for their enthusiasm and insightful questions.
