Teen Media Technical Workshops

August 2026

The Summer Teen Media students participate in a wide range of hands-on technical workshops throughout the program, gaining valuable experience in camera and lighting techniques, acting, editing, costume design, and set design.

As part of the program, students took part in a special Steadicam workshop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where they had the opportunity to work hands-on with the equipment and learn how this innovative technology is used in filmmaking. Check out this short video to see the students in action.

The Steadicam was invented by Philadelphia-based filmmaker and inventor Garrett Brown, who won an Academy Award for his invention. The groundbreaking technology was famously used in Rocky during the iconic running sequence through Philadelphia and up what are now known as the "Rocky Steps."

It was especially fitting for our students to experience this workshop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which itself served as an important filming location in Rocky. A perfect combination of Philadelphia filmmaking history and hands-on learning for the next generation of young filmmakers!
